The Say What? Gallery asks artists and viewers to enjoy the play between words and images of all kinds. We embrace mediums from works on paper, illustration, painting and sculpture to film and installation art. Each year we dedicate one show to outsider art, and another to the work of young local artists.
Jane Curley earned a PhD in History of Art from Yale University. She works as a freelance curator specializing in the art of illustration. For the last ten years she has worked with the Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA, where she has organized group shows as well as retrospectives on the work of William Steig, Chris Van Allsburg and Antonio Frasconi. She is also the Historian of Onteora Park.
Elena Patterson is a South African graphic designer who emigrated to the US in 1976. She is a painter and sculptor who, in 2002, conceived of the Paint Project in Tannersville, NY. The project is ongoing and has twice been featured on NBC’s Today Show and written about in the NY Times and Ladies’ Home Journal. Her art installations have been included in several publications.
Ed Cachianes is a writer/designer. His plays have been produced in NYC at The New Group, Circle Repertory Company, Musical Theater Works and La Mama E.T.C. As a designer his work has appeared in New York Home, Old House Interiors, Country Living, and This Old House.
Chris Cade is a designer and director for theater, film and television. He has worked for such diverse groups as the Muppets, KISS, Iron Maiden, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and produced and designed over 200 television commercials. He holds an MFA from the Ohio State University, and is currently the resident director of The Onteora Theater.
